Gebruder Resch “Remember” three-weight grand sonnerie,ca. 1880. A 40-inch walnut case in the Alt Deutsch style but missing its crest, and there are some breaks to the veneer
around the dial. The three glasses and the convex dial glass are period; the porcelain dial is in good condition with proper
hands. The 8-day grand sonnerie movement is marked “Remember” with a serial number of 100,000 plus 49758, and this latter number
is also on the mounting frame. It is not marked on the pendulum. The clock strikes properly on two coiled wire gongs on
the quarter hour but won’t stay running. The strike could use some adjustment for a better sound and the movement will likely
need service. There are three brass shell weights, one is a bit out of order. The pendulum bob is hollow with a steel
back. The case could use some attention in addition to a crest; a bit of a project here. These clocks were Austria’s answer
to the German Vienna factories that overtook the Austrian clock industry in the mid-1800’s, and they competed nicely. $200–$400.
