281.               $500

Very large three-weight grand sonnerie Vienna, ca. 1890.  A 60-inch walnut case with a clean, light finish, a carved base, and a railing crest with ball finials. The door glass appears modern, the flawless porcelain dial has an engraved brass center and proper Vienna hands.  The three weights also are embossed on the front side and hang on Vienna-style pulleys.  The 8-day, grand sonnerie movement is unsigned and running, rather feebly; it may need service soon.  The clock lightly counts the quarter-hours on one gong and then strikes the last hour on a second gong.  It is operating properly.  The large hollow brass pendulum bob has a R/A center section, but it is not an adjustable dial.  There is a hand-written label on the back that would appear to indicate a previous owner in Budapest in the late 1800’s.  $500–$800.
