274. $100
Japy Freres & Co. figural, ca. 1860. This
clock has a medal stamp awarded in 1855 on the movement, so I am assuming it was marketed at that time, or shortly thereafter. The clock is 11.5 inches tall and 15.5 inches wide; the statue has been repainted in gold and is flaking in spots. I am not
sure who it depicts, but he is holding a hammer with spikes at his feet; I am perturbed by the head next to the book on the right. The black slate base with the red marble highlight is dull and in need of polish; there are four adjustable feet. The porcelain
dial sits behind a beveled glass with a few chips at the winding arbor; the hands are French. The 8-day, time and half-hour
strike pendule de Paris movement is running and striking on the nickel bell. $100–$250.
