Japy Freres gilded Napolean figural,ca. 1890. I assume this is a figural of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte on his mount, Marengo, a grey Arabian. When
Napoleon met his Waterloo Marengo was captured by the English and taken to England, where it’s skeleton was displayed, eventually
in the National Army Museum. The gilded brass case shows good retention of the gilding, the horse is bronze, and the chain reins
are present. The small porcelain dial has some chips and hairlines, the hands are likely original, with a repair to the minute
hand. There is no glass over the dial; the rear cover is convex glass, over a Japy Freres 8-day, pendule de Paris movement that
is running and striking on the hours and half-hours on a nickel bell. This is a better-quality French clock. $200–$400.
