272. $200
French portico clock, ca. 1880. A 19.5-inch-tall
clock in maple with mahogany trim and ebony columns. The columns sit on brass plinths and are topped with brass capitals. The porcelain dial sits in an engine-turned brass bezel (no glass); there are numerous hairline cracks and two proper hands. The 8-day, pendule de Paris movement is unsigned, regulated by a large gridiron pendulum with a machined bob. It
is running and striking on the hour and half-hour but the movement is not securely mounted in the case and so has to be adjusted ‘just
so’ to run and strike reliably. No label or maker’s marks. $200–$500.
