270. $250
S. Marti figural shelf clock, ca. 1890. I have
no idea who is depicted here, but it is clearly an educated renaissance man. Do you know? Help me out with an email! The clock is 14.5 inches tall and 17.5 inches wide, with a high-quality bronze statue of a seated scholar on a two-layer marble pedestal. Note the red marble inlay on the upper layer and the brass edge trim. The porcelain dial once bore the name of the retailer,
but that has been lost. There are trefoil hands behind a thick beveled glass. The 8-day, pendule de Paris movement has
an S Marti & Cie medal award stamp and is running and striking on a nickel bell on the hour and half-hour. A heavy and good
quality French marble clock. $250–$400.
