Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Tower Clock No. 4” movement, 1909. A 54-inch cast iron stand and movement. This clock was on top of the Harrisburg Telegraph building at 1215 N. 3rd St. in Harrisburg, PA (see photo). It was installed in October 1909 at a cost of $260; note that the ‘ticket No.’ (1567) on the Seth Thomas bill of sale, obtained from the NAWCC Research Library, corresponds to the number on the reference dial on the front of the movement (along with an October 18, 1909 date). The Harrisburg Telegraph was a newspaper published from 1879 to 1948; the clock at the top of the building was 5 feet in diameter and weighed 500 lb. Although the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, it was razed five months later and replaced with a parking lot. Today it is an apartment/condo complex. The movement and stand weighs over 100 lb, with a 4-ft, 34-lb pendulum. It has been repainted. It will run, and 30 lb of weights are included that will drive the movement for 8 days if you have 16 ft of fall. The weight cable can fall through the center post, so a 10-lb round weight might be enough to drive the clock for a few days on a wind, with a concealed weight. A large hand crank, weight cable, and a large pulley are included. Clock dial and hands are not included. $2500–$5000.
Delivery to the eastern half of the US for $300.
