238.             $50

JC Brown round gothic, 1845-1856.  The label has suffered serious losses and the movement is not signed in this 19-inch beehive, but I believe the maker is JC Brown, based on the partial label.  The mahogany veneer has an old finish and is a bit dull; the glasses are original with a nicely preserved tablet.  The dial is glossy paper with some staining around the mainstem, the hands are new old stock and improper for this clock. The brass 8-day time-and-strike movement is unsigned, as noted; it is running and striking on a wire gong.  Despite the paper dial, improper hands, and partial label, this clock is collectable for the colorful and nearly complete tablet.  A coat of wax would help the finish.  $50–$150.
