235. $75
E.N. Welch round gothic (beehive), ca. 1860. A 19-inch
flame mahogany case with a thick patina all around and a few chips along the edges. The dial glass is a convex replacement,
the lower glass is period/original with an original tablet of the “President’s House” with a view of some boaters on the Potomac. The White House paint is lost. The round contoured metal dial shows the expected soiling on the original paint, the hands are
appropriate and period. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed E.N. Welch, Forestville CT, and is running and striking
without problem. There is a green label on the backwall noting that it was “Manufactured and sold by E.N. Welch at the old establishment
of (Late J.C. Brown)”. An original example. $70–$150.
