228. $500
Forestville Manufacturing Co. ripple-front gothic,
1842-1849. A second example of this desirable model; note that the ripple pattern differs from that of #227. The case
is 19 inches tall with an old finish; both glasses are old, but the dial glass has newer putty. The tablet is colorful and largely
intact. The dial holds old paint with a partial JC Brown signature below the mainstem; there is flaking, discoloration, and
roughness to the dial. The hands are correct and period/original. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed J.C. Brown,
Forestville. It is running and striking on a wire gong, but the strike does not want to stop and will need adjustment. There is a yellowed label for Forestville Mfg Co./J.C. Brown inside. $500–$700.
