224.               $100

Chauncey Jerome paper mâché fusee, 1845-1855.  The wood case is 13 inches tall with gilt and polychrome decorations on the front, along with MOP.  I see no missing pieces and the color is good.  The dial glass is period but not necessarily original; the door opens with a push-button latch on the left.  The painted dial holds old/original paint and is signed “C Jerome New Haven”.  The hands are period and could be original.  The brass 8-day, double-fusee movement is signed; it is very dirty and runs, but I’m not sure reliably.  It could stand some service.  It strikes on a wire gong.  There is no label, although there is an old label on the back.  This clock may have been made for export to England.  AAC sold a similar example a year ago for $184.  $100–$200.
