New Haven Clock Co. “Column”, ca. 1878. A small (16-inch)
column & cornice clock with tortoise-shell half-columns and two original glasses. The walnut veneer has an old finish, the
columns are original with the original gilding to the capitals and plinths. The lower tablet has some losses to the flowers,
and in 1895 an earlier owner wrote his name across the back of the tablet. The metal dial holds the original paint, with fading
to the stamped blue spandrel designs. The hands are period. The 8-day time, strike, and alarm movement is unsigned. It is running and striking on a wire gong; the alarm is hooked up and winds separately and was not tested. There is a good label
on the backwall, but it is obscured by the gong mount, alarm, and alarm bell. $50–$150.
