222. $50
Forestville Mfg. Co. 8-day OG, 1842-1849. A 29-inch case with clean flame-mahogany veneer and two period/original glasses and a very well retained lithograph tablet of Edinburgh
Scotland. The dial is in bad shape but bears a good signature of J.C. Brown. The hour hand is likely original, the minute
hand a replacement. The signed 8-day, time-and-strike movement is a prime attraction here to movement collectors for its sculpted
design. It is running and striking, although the strike chain is sluggish. There is a very nice lithograph label showing
the Forestville Manufacturing Co. building and the goings-on around it; for some reason there are people in the lookout on top of
the building, with a ladder nearby. The JC Brown name is also prominently featured. $50–$100.
