196.              $50

Three fusee steeple clocks, ca. 1843. The first two are by Hiram Welton (1841-1842); the third is by Chauncey Boardman (1843-1846).  All three are 30-hour time-and-strike fusee movements, and you can easily see three different styles used during this steeple heyday.  The first two are veneered in mahogany with an old finish; the third has been stripped of veneer.  All three have old glasses with original tablets that are well preserved; you may recognize the Hartford CT courthouse on the first.  The “View of Hotel de Paris” is one I have not seen before.  The original painted dials are rough, with staining, soiling, chipping, corrosion, and poorly done touch-ups. The first lacks a minute hand and the hour hand does not fit.  All hands are period.  The movements are not die-stamped; the first and third are running.  There are appropriate embossed pendulum bobs and good labels inside.  All for one money. $50–$150.
