182.             $50

Union Manufacturing Co. 30-hr OG, 1843-1845. A 26-inch case with mahogany veneer with just a few chips and slight graininess, an original dial glass and an original mirror – both glasses held in place with the original putty.  The wooden dial shows appropriate ageing and soiling; the hands are period/original. The 30-hour time-and-strike, weight-driven movement is unsigned and will only run for a minute or two; it will strike on the wire gong.  There is an early embossed pendulum bob, two 30-hour weights, and a decent label on the backwall.  The UMC was a cooperative formed in Bristol CT to manufacture brass OG clocks like this one, but only lasted two years before breaking up. $50–$100.
