178.            $70

New Haven Clock Co. 30-hour column & cornice, ca. 1860. A 25-inch case veneered in rosewood and mahogany with grain-painted half columns and two original glasses.  The veneer is clean and complete, the column capitals and plinths have been painted gold over the old gilding.   The tablet “Excelsior” retains most of the original image.  The original metal dial is dark and chipping badly; the hands are likely original.  The 30-hour weight-driven time-and-strike movement is not signed but is clearly a Jerome/New Haven movement; it is running and striking on a wire gong, driven by two period weights.  There is a good label on the backwall.  A nice clock for the money.  $70–$150.
