174. $100
Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Column”, ca. 1860. A second example of this model, with walnut and mahogany veneer and two original
glasses and a well-retained tablet. There are some missing pieces of veneer along the baseboard and top board; the finish is
clean and glossy. The dial glass is cracked in the lower left corner. Some of these early clocks had wooden dial boards,
as found here. It shows some soiling, the hands are proper and period. The 30-hour time-and-strike, weight-driven movement
is signed Seth Thomas, Plymouth Conn and is running and striking on the wire gong. There is a tattered but readable label inside,
with two period weights and a brass pendulum bob. $100–$200.
