Wm. S. Johnson four-post column & cornice with alarm,
1841-1848. Mr. Johnson was a prolific New York City clock retailer. This clock is 26 inches tall with mahogany veneer
and two columns on each side. The dial glass is modern, the lower glass and tablet original, and in very good condition. The wooden dial is darkened, the hands correct and period. The 30-hour time-and-strike brass movement is unsigned, clean as
a whistle, and with a built-in alarm. It is running and striking, with two wafer weights and an alarm weight (alarm untested). There
is a dark but legible label inside. AAC sold one in 2023 for $159. $100–$200.
