Henry Terry miniature OG, ca. 1850. Henry left
the clock business in 1836 when he converted his father’s clock manufactory in Plymouth to a woolen mill. He helped his younger
brother Silas financially in the late 1840’s and they manufactured miniature OG clocks with brass, 30-hour movements, such as this
one; they used a Henry Terry label. The case is 19.5 inches tall with mahogany veneer all around with a clean old finish. The dial glass is modern, the lower glass is period with a very nice tablet in good condition. The contoured dial has probably
been repainted and has an area of roughness on the lower right; the hands are replacements. The 30-hour brass, weight-driven
movement is unsigned; it is clean and running, striking on a wire gong. There is an embossed brass covered pendulum bob and
a readable label inside, with some water-staining. I found seven examples on LiveAuctioneers, but no recent sales. $150–$300.
