165. $250
Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Steeple Weight”, ca. 1858. A 29-inch case with a steeple façade. It is veneered in mahogany and is intact, with a clean, polished finish. Note the
original finials. The dial glass is modern, the lower glass period with a well-preserved tablet. Note the glass in the
steeple façade with its original eglomise painting, as well as a gold paper behind it to conceal losses in the gilding. The
wooden dial is clean and has good color, the hands are correct. The 30-hour time-and-strike brass movement is signed Seth Thomas
with a Plymouth location; it is running and striking on a wire gong with two period weights. There is a good label inside with
a Cincinnati retailer overpaste. This is not a common clock; AAC sold one in 2023 for $275, and there are only three sales on
LiveAuctioneers. $250–$400.
