Chauncey Jerome miniature flat-front empire, ca.
1850. This is a miniature version of Jerome’s flat-front empire, standing only 18.5 inches tall (the standard size is 24
inches). This model also is notable for having a false fusee movement – the apparent fusees in front of the 30-hour springs
are simply wooden spools. The case is veneered in rosewood or crotch mahogany, with a great look; the dial glass is old. The wooden dial is clean, the hands are replacements. The brass 30-hour, “fusee” movement is dirty and probably needs service,
as it keeps going out of beat. But you’re not buying this to keep time. I hope. The interior is painted blue and
there is a very nice card label on the backwall. AAC sold a nearly identical example last January for $620. $400–$650.
