148.              $125

Seth Thomas “Drop Octagon 12 Inch”, ca. 1900. A 23.5-inch oak case with two period glasses and a dial marked “Ball’s Standard, Cleveland, O, Pat App’l For”.  There is a small, framed note stating that this clock was used by the New York Central Railroad and hung in the East St. switch tower at Springfield, Ohio.  The case has been cleaned, the metal dial is faded but clean, and the hands are Seth Thomas.  The 8-day, time-only, spring-driven movement is signed and running; there is a label for setting up the clock inside.  Schmitt Horan sold a walnut example, also with the Ball’s Standard dial and the same movement, in 2023 for $250.  $125–$250.
