Antique American Clocks JANUARY 2025
145. $200
Ansonia Clock Co. “Commerce”, ca. 1883. A label on the
back says this model is the Commerce, but it does not fully match the catalog illustration in Ly, Ansonia Clocks & Watches (page
187); it differs in some details of the crest and base bracket. I cannot find any sales records on LiveAuctioneers. The
34-inch walnut case has been overcoated more than once and has a dark finish. The door glass is period/original, the paper dial
has the Ansonia logo but is very faded and due for replacement. The hands are as shown in the catalog illustration. The
8-day, time-and-strike movement is typical Ansonia and is so marked; it is running and striking as expected. The pendulum stick,
bob, and beat scale look original. An uncommon example from Ansonia. $200–$350.
