Boardman & Wells 30-hour column & splat, 1832-1837. A second example of this model with bronzed half-columns and splat, two original glasses, and a well-preserved tablet. The bronzing
is good on the splat and worn on the half-columns; the mahogany veneer is good all-around with no noticeable chips. Note that
“Boardman & Wells” is bronzed across the top of the splat. There are some scattered losses, most noticeably in the building
tower; there are also places where the reverse painting is peeling. The tablet glass has a stable crack across the upper right
corner. The wooden dial is clean and bright, the hands are proper and period. The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement
is running without problem and striking on a wire gong. There is an old pendulum bob and two period weights. A very good
label inside. Nothing not to like here. $100–$200.
