121.            $250

Jeromes’ & Darrow long-drop shelf clock, 1828-1834. A 33.5-inch case with mahogany veneer and a clean, newer finish.  I see one small missing piece of veneer along an edge. I never know if the columns and splat may have originally been  painted and bronze-stenciled.  Both glasses are old and quite possibly original; the wonderful tablet is original and has been touched up.  The dial is clean and colorful, the hands proper and period.  The 30-hour, time-and-strike wooden movement is running and striking without hesitation, driven by two period weights.  There is a good label inside.  There are a number of penciled signatures and 1800’s dates on the back of the dial that appear to be from one family; one date is 1809, which must be the birth date of the writer.  This clock deserves a second look, it is one of the better examples I have seen, particularly for the dial and original tablet.  $250–$500.
