116. $200
Seth Thomas column & splat, ca. 1830. A 29-inch
case with good veneer and the stenciling on the bronzed columns and splat remains bright. Both glasses are original, with the
original putty; I believe the tablet was repainted long ago and has a stable crack on the left side. Note the claw feet in front
and the turned feet in back. The wooden dial has been professionally retouched; the hands are replacements. The 30-hour
wooden movement runs but stops suddenly, suggesting a gear tooth problem; there are two 30-hour weights. There is a good label
inside. This is a great example of Thomas’ early work. $200-$400.
