109.             $400

Norris North column & splat shelf clock with Torrington movement, 1822-1824.  Norris did not stay long in this business, developing his unconventional horizontal wooden 30-hour movement and then selling out to his brother Ethel in 1824.  Norris continued to make clocks off and on in other locations, including Oswego NY.  He made clocks in a variety of styles, with a few like this, although his pillar & scrolls are most common. This case is 29 inches tall with good mahogany veneer and bronzed half-columns and splat – the bronzing is faded but original on the columns and good on the splat (it could be a replacement).  There are carved paw feet in front and turned feet in back, all likely replacements.  The dial glass is old but likely a replacement and has two short cracks at the upper right; the lower glass is modern with a tablet by Tom Moberg.  The wooden dial shows wear, the hands are period.  The wooden 30-hour movement has had some repairs and is running and striking without problem on an iron bell.  There are two 30-hour weights and a mostly complete label inside.  Tim’s sold a similar example for $900 in 2016, the most recent sale I can find.  $400–$800.
