106.              $250

Charles Kirke pillar & scroll, 1827-1832. A 31-inch case with a clean finish on good veneer.  Both scroll tips have been broken off and repaired, the scroll top looks original; the feet and skirt look like replacements.  The brass urns are on brass posts, the dial glass is original, the lower glass a modern replacement with a well-done tablet.  The wooden dial has gilding over gesso in the spandrels and shows soiling; the hands are period and proper.  The wooden 30-hour movement is clean and running, striking on the iron bell.  The label inside has losses, but the maker can be determined, along with the location (Bristol, CT).  Kirke’s pillar & scrolls are not uncommon, with the most recent sale at Schmidt’s Antiques in 2022 for $300, with a repainted tablet.  $25–$400.

I use the following bid increments to assign the final sale price.  If your winning bid is less than one increment over the second highest bid, you are assessed your full bid amount.

   BID                     INCREMENT

$250-$499                   $25
$500-$999                   $50
$1000-$2499               $100

$5000-$9999               $500
$10,000 >                    $1000

If you are the only bidder and you bid less than $250, you will pay your full bid amount if you are the winning bidder; if you bid more than $250, you will get the item for $250 or the minimum bid price, whichever is higher.
