104. $250
Mark Leavenworth pillar & scroll, 1820-1824. An early pillar & scroll from Leavenworth before he added his son Benjamin to the partnership (1824, Mark Leavenworth & Son)
and later his son-in-law Green Kendrick (1829, Mark Leavenworth & Co.). The 30-inch case is practically perfect (one small
missing piece of mahogany veneer on lower right baseboard) and an undamaged and unrepaired scroll top, skirt, and feet. The
brass urn finials are on metal screw posts. The dial glass is an old replacement with period glass, the lower glass original. I think the tablet has been repainted, but possibly just touched up; it is in outstanding condition if original. There is an
ivory escutcheon and a working period latch. The painted wooden dial is clean and in excellent condition, note the painted floral
arrangement around the mainstem; the hands are cast pewter. The 30-hour wooden movement will run briefly but the strike is hung
up. There is an iron bell, an old pendulum bob, two proper old weights, a crank, and a dark but readable and intact label. There just isn’t anything not to like here. $250–$500.
