Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 4”, ca. 1885.  A very original example of this popular calendar clock; my colleagues like to say “original finish”, and this one is all that and more, with plenty of patina on this 32-inch walnut case.  The urn finials are original, and only the center urn’s tip has been lost.  The door glass is original, as is the Fashion lettering.  Both dials are flaking, but not to the point of repainting. The pans, which like to warp as they age, are still pretty flat.  The four hands are original.  The signed Seth Thomas movement is running and striking on the brass bell without problem, regulated by a damascened brass pendulum bob.  The calendar movement is functioning properly, with the paper rolls darkened maybe just a bit too much.  Good labels inside, Confederate cash in the secret compartment in the back.  Nothing not to like if you like ‘em original.  AAC sold four of this model last year for an average of $621.  $400–$700.
