Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “No. 1 Regulator Sweep”, 1880. As per Joel Warren, Jedi Master of Ithaca Calendar Clocks and author of Ithaca’s Clock Makers, this was the ICCC’s top-of-the-line
model, with a sweep-second hand and an 8-day, time-only, two-weight movement made by E.N. Welch. The walnut case is 51 inches
long with a 10-inch crest and a 12-inch base, for an overall length of 73 inches. The case was refinished by Willie Brown of
Morningside Woodcrafters in Lexington, KY; both movements were overhauled by Mr. Warren and are running properly. The trim pieces
are original and all are present, without any evident damage; the door glass is old and possibly original. The dial mask is
original as well, with a repair to a break at the upper right. The 12-inch dials are old paper with modest wear, with
the calendar dial signed. The hands are not as shown in the catalog illustration (open Maltese hands) but are found on several
other examples of this model, and, because of the special fit for a sweep-second hand, may well be original; the seconds hand and
calendar hand are as found on this model. The Welch nickel-plated movement is not signed (typical); it has had some solder repairs
but is running without issue, and the calendars are advancing. The pendulum stick is original, with the original grid-iron decoration
above the large, nickel-plated bob; there is loss of nickel on part of the bob. The two 8-lb weights are not original
and are not a matched set; this is the only apology I can find for this clock. This clock would have cost you $75 originally,
the equivalent of over $2,300 today. Several sales last year, at Cottone’s for $10,500, and at Fontaine’s for $7500. $6500–$10,000.
Delivery to the eastern half of the US for $500; blanket wrap to the west coast for $500.
