32.            $500

Waltham Watch Co. “Model 1501” banjo, ca. 1930.  This is the basic model of weight-driven banjos by Waltham and represents the last pendulum clocks they made.  The 42-inch walnut case has a light finish without embellishment; buyers had a choice of a half-dozen matched, hand-painted glasses – this is Washington with Mt Vernon.  There is some lifting to the throat glass and a few chips to the tablet.  The dial glass is convex, the painted convex dial is signed with proper hands.  The 8-day, time-only movement is signed and running, driven by the original lead weight.  There is a pendulum tie-down, no label (never is).  If you are going to own one banjo clock, this model should probably be it.  AAC sold a similar example in 2023 for $700.  $500–$750.
