18.              $400

Wm. Gilbert Clock Co. “Regulator No. 3”, ca. 1875.  A 51-inch case with clean rosewood veneer; a chip or two along the base at the back, and some fading of the crest. All the finials match the catalog illustration (Ly, Gilbert Clocks, page 130) but are likely reproductions; the pressed wood ornaments look original.  The door glass is modern with gilded trim.  The dial is glossy paper, the hands period but differ from the catalog illustration.  The 8-day, time-only movement is unsigned but is as found in other examples; it is running, driven by a large iron weight behind the wooden baffle.  This clock was originally marketed by Daniel Pratt’s Sons in Boston (label inside).  A small Gilbert label on the back.  AAC sold a similar example a year ago for $500.  $400–$600.
