14.               $1000

Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 1 Extra”, ca. 1875.  A 40-inch case with beautiful rosewood veneer, old but not necessarily original, with no major losses.  It has a clean finish and could use a light waxing.  The dial glass is period/original, the tablet glass is period but has been out of the door, probably for repainting/rebacking; the gilt design is proper for this model.  The dial holds very old paint with plenty of chipping and flaking and, depending on your inclination, could be repainted.  The three hands are correct.  The round 8-day, time-only movement was designed by S.B. Terry and used in some models after Seth Thomas bought out Terry in 1859; it is shown on page 272 of Ly, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements, Vol. 1.  It is running but is out of plumb and the tolerances between the original pendulum and the dial, doors, and weight shield is tight and requires careful positioning.  There is a proper cast iron weight behind the weight shield, which has a good label detailing how to set up the clock.  $1000-$1500.
