10.              $600

E. Howard & Co. “No. 70 Regulator”, ca. 1900.  A 31-inch walnut (or cherry) case with a clean old finish and some patina where you would expect it to be. Both glasses are original, the tablet with some retouching.  The 12-inch dial appears to hold the original paint and signature and is slightly yellowed.  The hands are correct.  The Howard No. 70 8-day, time-only movement will run for about 5 minutes before it peters out, and probably needs cleaning.  It is driven by a No. 70 iron weight (painted silver long ago) and regulated by a Howard pendulum and damascened bob. The wooden weight shield is a replacement and is not secured; there is no tie-down.  The average sale price for a walnut No. 70 at AAC is $750; cherry sells for a fair bit more.  $600–$900.
