modern. The walnut box is 4.5 inches square and 3.5 inches tall, with brass fittings. The compass has a 2-inch brass face
behind glass and rotates freely on a gimble. There is no maker name to be found. I’m not sure you’d take this camping,
but maybe on a boat? $10–$50.

Seth Thomas clear plastic 16-inch
dial. Must be good for something; holes cut for movement mounting. $10–$25.
606. $750
Atkins “Parlor No. 1” case and wagon
spring movement. The case has a clean old finish with some patina, and a few scrapes on the corners. The dial glass and
mirror are likely original; the original dial surround has some losses. The Type III wagon spring will run after some adjustment
to the beat; the wooden stick and bob are correct and period. The movement fits the case but will likely need to be elevated
a half-inch or so to put the mainstem in the center of the dial opening. There is no dial, hands, or backboard. $750–$1000.
607. $50
Reproduction Howard finials.
A matched set, in walnut. The center finial is 5 inches tall; the side finials are 4.5 inches tall.

608. $15
Groaner weights. Small square
weights for early wooden works clocks with “groaner” movements. Generally 2 inches by 2 inches by 3 inches, weighing 2.5–3.5
lb. These are examples – you cannot pick your set – sorry. Up to two sets can be mailed in a USPS flat rate
box for $20. $15/pair, no bidding, all sell for the stated price. Indicate if you want them shipped and
I will include the shipping fee.
609. $15
Tall case clock movement and
dial. A standard 16-inch tall by 12-inch-wide wooden dial that has been lacquered and subsequently yellowed. No signature,
but the small scene in the arch is like those found on clocks by Hoadley from the early 1800’s. Note that it is off-kilter. There
are filled winding holes, filled seconds bit and calendar dial holes, and filled mounting holes, indicating that this dial has been
used with another movement. The false winding holes suggest that it started out with a pull-up wooden movement. The
hands are thick iron and probably later issue. The wooden slat, 30-hour, time-and-strike movement has brass gears and pivots
and may be of Pennsylvanian German make. It is missing the bell on top and a pendulum rod and was not tested. No
weights. $15–$50.
610. $50
Birge, Peck & Co. triple decker
case and movement, 1849-1859. A 33-inch case with a clean finish and good flame mahogany veneer on the front and columns. The corners have veneer chips that have been painted over, particularly at the upper left. The three glasses are original and
the middle Fenn tablet is very nice; the lower tablet has some losses but is still very good, and an image I have not seen before. The metal dial is not original to the case but will do; it will need to be properly mounted. The hands are replacements. The unmarked strap brass, 8-day, time-and-strike movement was not tested and there all no weights with this clock. I can provide
a set of weights for $50; put a note on your bid sheet. There also are no pulleys in the top of the case, and they will need
to be replaced before the clock can run. There is a good label inside, with the famous lithograph of “Puffin’ Betsy” with a
boy and his dog. Worth saving. $50–$100.
611. $100
Salem Bridge case and movement. The 30-inch case is veneered in flame mahogany with rectangular piers on each side and a wonderful carved pair of griffins for the
crest. Note the reinforcements from the back. Both glasses are replacements, held in place with small wooden strips. The glasses are old, the stenciled pattern in pretty good shape. The painted iron dial has been cleaned, there are no hands. The brass 8-day, time-and-strike Salem Bridge movement is not marked and could not be tested because the weight cords are broken. There are no weights with this clock, and no label. Great case, needs some help. $100–$300.
612. $50 ea
Welch “Patti” dials. Each is 5.5 inches in diameter, with proper grommets and bezels; the one on the left is original paper, the one on the right is original
paint, with a few chips. Indicate which one you are bidding on, or both, and if you will accept either.
613. $10
Large, silvered beat scale. I think it is Seth Thomas, but it is not marked; 7.5 inches wide. $25–$50.
614. $10
B.B. Lewis “Perpetual Calendar Y
Mechanism” reproduction. Lewis patented three forms of this mechanism, which were used by Elias Burwell, and later by Lewis
& Son, in L.F & W.W. Carter calendar clocks and Welch, Spring & Co. My consignor tells me this example is a reproduction
and it appears to function correctly, although not tested in a clock. $50–$100.
