240. $900
Black Forest tinplate cuckoo, ca. 1860. This is a rare spring-driven tinplate cuckoo in the Bahnhäusle style. It is about 23 inches long with a clean finish and no
missing pieces. The porcelain dial shows some cracking and repairs around the center post and bottom right. It is running
but hangs up when it tries to set the strike and will need attention (it is beyond my expertise). The clock counts the hours
on a wire gong and the cuckoo sings on the hour and looks out its door – it does not come out very far. I believe it runs 8
days. I can find no sales examples of this type of cuckoo on LiveAuctioneers or the Antique Clocks Identification and Price
Guide. $900–$1500.
