S.B. Jerome & Co. small lever-spring wall
clock, 1856-1878. Chauncey Jerome’s son Samuel (one of three) who owned part of Jerome & Co. in England and his own firm,
made small shelf clocks and lever-spring marine clocks, as found here. The 9-inch diameter wood case is covered in a leather-like
fabric; the dial glass is modern, the 5-inch dial pan repainted, and a paper dial applied. The hands are appropriate modern
replacements. The unsigned 8-day, time-and-strike lever-spring movement is running and striking on a small iron bell. There is a small label on the back noting the manufacturer. A rare manufacturer, with no listed sales in LiveAuctioneers, although
there are three similar examples on the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide. $50–$150.
