Antique American Clocks JULY 2024
139. $225
Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 2”,
1877. The second model in the series and the first one to adopt the case style used by all subsequent models. The
walnut case with finials is 31.5 inches tall with a very old, likely original finish and loads of patina. It could stand to
be cleaned and waxed. There are noticeable veneer chips (this was the last model to have veneer); the finials are intact and
may be original. Both glasses are old, the dials in desperate need of repainting; the hands are correct. The 8-day time-and-strike
movement is signed by Seth Thomas and made for the SCCC. The clock is running and striking on the brass bell; the calendars
are advancing. A faded label on the back of the door with the date of manufacture, October 1, 1877. AAC sold one
last winter for $350. $225–$400.
