Antique American Clocks JULY 2024
138. $400
Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion
No. 1”, 1875. SCCC used an Seth Thomas Parlor Calendar No. 3 case and movements (with one important difference) for their first
Fashion clocks. How do you tell a Fashion No. 1 from a Seth Thomas Parlor Calendar No. 3? That important difference
in the cases – SCCC cases had an ogee-style base (seen here) rather than a quarter-round base, as found on the ST clock (see Ly, Calendar
Clocks, page 259). SCCC labeled their dials with “FASHION” on the time dial, and “SOUTHERN CALENDAR CLOCK CO.” on the calendar
dial, as found here. The 28.5-inch case is veneered in mahogany with no noticeable defects and a polished finish. Both glasses are period/original, the dials were repainted by The Dial House (the original dials were papered). The hands are
correct. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement was made by Seth Thomas and is so labeled; the calendar movement was also made
by ST and patented by R.T. Andrews. It is running and striking, and the calendar is advancing. AAC sold a Fashion No.
1 in 2020 for $638. $400–$600.
