Antique American Clocks JULY 2024
137. $150
Ansonia Clock Co. “Shakespeare”, ca.
1894. A 17.5-inch-wide cast-iron base; the height of the clock is 14.5 inches. The finish is all original and in need
of rejuvenation; there is some chipping of the enamel from the base. I see no losses to the trim. The 5-inch signed porcelain
dial has some cracks at the lower right; there is a visible escapement with steel pallets, with a beveled glass cover. The signed
8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking with a rich sound on a cathedral gong. The back door was lost and replaced
with a small pie pan long ago. Ansonia key included. Ansonia figurals like this typically sell between $150 and $300.
