Antique American Clocks JULY 2024
131. $200
Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Chime Clock No. 51” ca. 1914. A 14-inch oak case with a clean, dark (fumed or early English?) finish. The convex dial glass is beveled, as is the silvered dial, with some wear and discoloring. The hands are correct. The 8-day, time, strike, and chime movement is running, playing Westminster chimes on four Sonora bells on the quarter-hours and counting the hours on one bell. The movement is signed. If you think you don’t like clocks that chime, these Sonora chime clocks will change your mind. AAC sold a similar example in 2021 for $275. $200–$350.
This clock occasionally misses a strike when counting the hours, it may need service.
