Antique American Clocks JULY 2024
126. $100
American Clock Co. “Arbor” iron-front,
1850-1864. A 17.5-inch iron-front with reasonable retention of the color on the flowers, although the finish is thick with some
alligatoring around the dial. The dial glass is likely original, with the original putty, the porthole glass could be a replacement. The dial is old replaced paper, the hands period. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned, running and striking on a
wire gong. There is a foundry stamp on the bottom back of the casting: “No. 1 F.S. Otis patent NY 1857”. AACsold a 20-inch version of this model in 2022 for $150 that was stamped “No. 2”, suggesting that they increased the size in later models,
and that this is the first model. The label is very dark and deteriorating, and I cannot read the full name of the maker, although
it is likely ACC. $100-$200.
