JJ Beals box clock, 1875. Beals was a
retailer in Boston in the late 1800’s; the makers of this clock are not indicated on the label or movement. The wood case is
13.75 inches tall in black lacquer with gilding and painted flowers on the front. The dial glass is old, the painted and signed
dial and hands are likely original. The 8-day time-and-strike movement is unsigned; it is clean and running and striking on
a wire gong. There are labels in the bottom, including the date of 1875. $100–$200.
