117. $35
Seth Thomas Clock Co. adamantine black mantel clock, ca.
1894. This model is not shown in Ly’s books on ST clocks, but it is very much like model No. 777 (page 461, Ly, Seth Thomas
Clocks & Movements, Vol. 1). The 11-inch by 14.5-inch case is wood, covered in Seth Thomas’s trademark plastic coating,
adamantine. The adamantine mimics marble on the top and under the pilasters. This clock has been refinished nicely; the
brass embossed dial is clean and shiny, proper hands, and behind a flat glass. It is running and striking (8-day, time-and-strike,
hours and half-hours) on a cathedral gong. $35–$150.
