116. $35
Seth Thomas Clock Co. adamantine black mantel,
1893. This clock has a ST label on the bottom but no model name, just a model number (102). The date of manufacture is
also stamped on the bottom – 1893. I cannot find it in Ly’s books on Seth Thomas clocks. The case is 11 inches tall and
17 inches wide, with good adamantine all around and polished brass feet, lion’s head side handles, column capitals and plinths, and
a very shiny brass dial. There are proper hands, a brass bezel and a flat glass, both probably replacements; the bezel does
not want to stay closed. The half-columns are plastic and stand on and under marbleized supports. The 8-day, time-and-strike
movement is running and striking on the hours and half-hours on a cathedral gong with a nice sound. $35–$125.
