Seth Thomas Clock Co. adamantine black mantel,
1898. A second example of a model I cannot find in Ly’s books on Seth Thomas clocks – this indicates how popular these clocks
were early in the last century, and how many models were made for which catalogs don’t exist. This clock is 17 inches long and
12 inches tall, in good condition. There is marbling on the top and side ornamentation, with silvered incising on the front
of the base; there are some spot losses on the top surface. The side handles appear to be Egyptian lions of a sort. The
dial is yellowed paper with the ST logo in the center and proper hands, behind a flat glass. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement
bears the ST logo and is striking a small cathedral gong on the hours and half hours. There is a label on the back and a date
(1898) on the bottom. $35–$125.
