Ansonia Clock Co. “King”, ca. 1901. This model is shown
in two slightly different formats in Ly, Ansonia Clocks & Watches (page 448) from different catalogs, 1880 and then 1901. This is the 1901 version. The walnut case is 23.5 inches tall with a clean finish. The top finial is correct, the glass
is likely original with good retention of the stencil, which shows ‘Ansonia’ on the lower left, along with an owl and a spider web. Not sure what that means. There is a bronze figurehead and lion heads on the side pedestals. The dial is signed paper
in a nickel bezel with proper hands and slight wear. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed Ansonia and is running and
striking on a cathedral gong, but the click stop does not catch when you try to wind it, so it will need attention. There
is a nice nickel pendulum and a label on the back. $75–$150.
