New Haven Clock Co. 8-day steeple timepiece, ca. 1856. New Haven CC took over the Jerome Clock Co. in 1856. This 20-inch steeple is unusual for having an 8-day time-only movement,
probably made to make a lower-cost clock and expand their market. I have not seen this model before and my consignor states
that only three are known. The veneer is mahogany with an old finish, the glasses are period but the dial glass is likely a
replacement and the frosted tablet is soiled and the frosting worn off at the bottom. The left finial tip is missing. The dial holds the original paint with soiling, the hands are likely original. Note the unusual position of the winding arbor
for the simple unsigned, 8-day movement. It is running without issue. There is a green label behind plastic inside and
an old pendulum bob. A rare example. $100–$500.
