Daniel Pratt & Sons 8-day round gothic with
alarm, 1853-1869. Daniel Pratt was a retailer on Union St. in Boston in the mid-1800’s; he bought movements and cases from various
manufacturers. This beehive case is 19 inches tall with mahogany veneer on the front, plain maple doors, and grain painting
on the sides and dial board, giving it a striking appearance. The finish is clean and it has likely been refinished. Both
glasses are period, the dial glass has been replaced/reputtied, the lower glass with a period tablet in good condition, although the
color is faded. The dial holds the original paint with minor touch-ups, and period hands. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement
is unsigned; it is running and striking on a wire gong. There is a good label inside and an alarm on the lower left that is
not hooked up. A nice example. $100–$200.
